Monday Morning 29th Nov

I've had a fun weekend. (Despite puking and almost crashing.) Friday was spent filming a model shoot and then getting very drunk at the German Market. I'm really loving the festivities this year. Saturday was a bit of a write off but somehow ended up at the German market, again. Sunday I played a bit of Gran Turismo 5 and got well into it! (I've posted the intro movie to the game below because it's pretty epic although it goes into cheese at the end.) Then I went and helped Jenny for some...err...project for work we are doing. :) More to come about that later! On my freezing drive home my back end skid out down a tiny, icy lane but I managed to stop the car whilst swearing A LOT just before I hit a wall. Heart racing, I couldn't help but laugh at my luck. That go kart practise on GT5 certainly helped. If it takes near death experiences to make me feel alive then I'm screwed!

New ep from Richard Parker

Richard Parker are a four piece instrumental band from Leeds creating some really beautiful music reminiscent of Explosions stuff. They are also generously giving away their first ever ep on their tumblr so get over there and download it! Definitely one to watch.

...continuing the Harry Potter theme

I salute thee whoever made the sign in the far right for the student protests yesterday. Good form.

wizard sleeves

I'm a big Harry Potter fan I'm unashamed to say but watching the new film last night just didn't cut it for me. I never get my hopes up too much if I've read the book version of a film but it was just sooo slow to get going and god help anyone that hadn't read the books with all the 'expecto patronums' and 'expelliarmus' malarki they were throwing about. The plot is much darker than the last with Voldemort and his possee going on a killing spree so maybe the added bit of light humour I thought it lacked would of been inappropriate. I just wanted Ron to get all sulky and say 'piss off' a bit more like the other films. I did have the giggles well bad though at the beginning when there was a scene of Daniel Radcliffe looking really unflattering in a bra.

Going up in the world

You can now follow me on twitter! (not that I have anything to say!) but just incase:

Vice Backstage Heroes

Vice are profiling the people who make the music that we love happen. Not the front men, but the real cogs of the music industry - producers, sound engineers, video directors etc. The idea was to shoot them in the 519s product and talk to them about what they do, how it relates to music and fashion.

Series 2 of Backstage heroes features JACK SHANKLY (Transparent Records/Altered Zones/NME) and at only 21 he makes me depressed I'm not achieving more at my age. To read the interview and check out other profiles in the series click HERE.

Salem

There seems to be quite a stir about this band, both good and bad. I'm torn between whether I think they are utter shite or brilliant? Maybe brilliant is a step too far but there is something strangely indulgent about them. I was sat on the tube a few weeks ago drowning everybody out with 'Trapdoor' on my headphones feeling an almost euphoric sense of calm... I'm talking out my arse now. I'm not no gay music blogger pfff

p.s. Out of all the people I've said to take a listen to Salem, I seem to be on my own on this one. :|

p.p.s. Their first ever uk tour dates start tonight:

November
24 Shoreditch Church – London (sold out)
26 Islington Mill – Manchester
27 Nation of Shopkeepers – Leeds
29 Bodega – Nottingham
30 Thekla – Bristol

Forgot about this band. Wasn't really a massive fan but I liked this one song...I even put it on my myspace profile haaa

band bio

Listening to last.fm, I stumbled on this nicely written band biography:

Sometimes bands break up and it’s a bitch for everyone involved except for the girlfriend who planted the death seeds and instigated the whole thing. Maybe it was a boyfriend, but let’s not be gender specific. The band is gone and you have to deal with it.

To the point. I like it.

Alice, Letty & Lousie Featuring Celestine Cooney

Alice, Letty and Louise are a trio of independent bloggers whose love for fashion and blogging has recently brought them together in an interesting initiate, reversing the more common media model by using their existing blogs as a launchpad to start their fanzine, entitled 'HOT & COOL'. They are each successful and well known in their individual capacity as bloggers. Alice uses her blog, 'Cool and Beauty', to document her daily sartorial selections and her general reflections on fashion. Her site is Pop Magazine approved. Letty's blog, 'Letty Schmiterlow', is an amalgamation of Letty's comments on everything from fashion to music to lm. She is also a very talented photographer, which is a skill that her blog enables her to showcase. 'Love Visions' is Lousie's creation, which she uses to docucment her life.

skate - shot on red #1347 - 120 fps

Shown this yesterday. Such absolutely beautiful footage that it doesn't even matter that they're mainly doing stuff down a 3 set. I just need 10/20k for a red cam now...

Today was awesome.

Today I went down to watch/help out at a photoshoot we are doing for a product brochure. Now that probably sounds quite dull to you but it really wasn't. There were some amazing set building guys who had came up from London assembling all these giant fake walls and ceilings that were painted to look like concrete and decayed metal and blimey, they were so realistic you wouldn't tell the difference in the picture. I was busy running/messing around, crawling along the roof and stuff, filming the set build and photoshoot and helping position walls, etc. I loved it! Also got free lunch, sausages and mash, LUVVLY JUBBLY!

It was just cool to meet interesting people though. One of the photographers shoots the covers for Volksworld and the set designers were telling me about the films they had worked on like 101 Dalmations and Made In Dagenham. ANDDDD....I got talking to one of the set designers who is from New Zealand about old school skateboarding and it turns out he's met my all time legend, Mark Gonzales in the flesh!!! JEALOUS. It didn't even feel like I was working just chatting about skateboarding in the 80s, Vision and Bones Brigade. Apparently this was this shizz back in the day: Rodney Mullen in Future Primitive

Junction Eleven

Working here tomorrow to oversee a shoot oo la laa. CLICK

(dead dogs) I was beginning to think my parents were cruel...

Today was the 3rd person I heard admit they had never played or heard of 'Dead Dogs.' I was properly shocked as I thought EVERYONE knew it but when I explained to them what it was they just looked perplexed. Basically, it's a game where as a kid you had to lie as still silent as you could. Dead. First one to move/breath/talk is out. (Ok...maybeeeee my parents WERE cruel) I used to love it though and the competitive streak in me used to be like 'yehhhh, I'm so gonna stay the stillest...noone can play as dead as I can....' O, WHAT A FOOL!

I played it at my 5th birthday party with all my friends and my dad came in and shouted 'Who wants cake!?' My best friend at the time jumps up and shouts 'ME!' and my Dad goes 'Hahaha YOU'RE OUT!'

What.

Polo

Not sure what I make about this ad. There seems to be a bit of a trend to make ads which stand alone from the product. And I'm not sure if it quite gels in this one. That said, it is great bit of film direction and despite what people are saying on the blogs, I think the soundtrack goes really well. Super sassy!

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY

I saw a horse roll over on its back like a dog. Cutest thing ever!

Monday 15th Nov

Morning/afternoon. Sorry, been slacking on the blogging and also apologies for not sorting my blog layout and hurting your retinas. Friday was pretty cool, went and watched some room sets being built for a photoshoot and also had a sneak peek at the new Aston Martin city car being photographed whilst I was there. Also watched Jackass 3D (twice) which was hilarious, definitely recommend it. Apart from that just a load of sleeping over the weekend. Oh, I watched the Haye vs. Harrison fight. I love boxing but I'm so glad I didn't pay to watch it. Really didn't expect it to be over that quickly!

Learnt a new fact...apparently you shouldn't eat blue cheese if you are allergic to penicillin. I didn't have any severe allergic reaction over the weekend though. Getting prettttty cold the weather is...need a nice new coat I reckon. The German market will be coming up soon, always a treat. I can't wait for Dario to get back from Falmouth so we can make mistletoe flavoured icecream mmm. I've got the sniffles and left my phone at home. :(

Today is a 'gift.' That's why they call it the 'present.'

Many people will walk in and out of your life,
but only true friends leave footprints in your heart.
To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.
Anger is only one letter short of danger.
If someone betrays you once, it is his fault;
if he betrays you twice, it is your fault.
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events;
small minds discuss people. He who loses money, loses much;
he who loses a friend, loses much more; he who loses faith, loses all.
Beautiful young people are accidents of nature,
but beautiful old people are works of art.
Learn from the mistakes of others.
You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.
Friends, you and me. . . you brought another friend. . .
and then there were three. . .
we started our group. . .
our circle of friends. . .
and like that circle. . .
there is no beginning or end. . .
yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift.
That is why they call it the present.

Love these guys: 4 Star in England

Thursday, 4 November 2010

hehe :) (response to the Cassius app posted earlier)

Bad things that could happen.

I hate blogs that constantly reblog other people's stuff but every now and again I come across something that's just too good NOT to pass on. I think the paper craft trend has been done to death but this video has some originality to it and anything that puts a smile on my face is good in my books. It also reminded me I have the dentist today :(

('If you like it, then it's good.' - Can't remember which designer said that quote but it's a nice take on things when you think about it, not caring whether or not it meets the requirements of 'good' design/whatever but going off an emotion instead.)
